For years, I was terrified of an empty room.
While working hard to become an independent scientist, the thought of walking into a barren lab space filled me with dread. Reality turned out to be much sunnier. While the renovations to our lab space are ongoing, David and I are sharing a small slice of the 9th floor of the Alexandria building on E 29th St. We are sandwiched between Nick Stavropoulos' lab on one side and Gyorgi Buzsaki's lab on the other. Dima Rinberg and Dick Tsien are around the corner, and there is always someone to bounce an idea off of, or steal a pair of pliers from. While we're still waiting on a few odds and ends, most of the lab is in place and ready to go. Marie Suver will join us in January and David's two technicians, Katherine and Marie, are already here. We are looking forward to many others joining us. They don't even have to be named Katherine or Marie.
